
An Oakleigh local, Andrew Gikas attended the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Science degree in 1991.
Dr Gikas began practicing dentistry in regional Victoria before returning to Melbourne. He established his own practice in 1994 to provide the highest quality service and patient focused care to patients in Oakleigh and surrounding communities.
His passions are all aspects of general dentistry, dental sleep medicine and footy.
As well as working full time in clinical practice Andrew is involved in a number of professional activities outside of clinical practice. He has been a councillor at the ADA Victorian Branch since 2012 and is the current Immediate Past President of the state branch. He has a strong interest in oral health promotion activities including chairing the ADAVB's Oral Health Commitee, being a member of a number of oral health working groups and enjoying some media engagements.
He was awarded Fellowship in both the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2017 for his contributions to the dental profession. In 2018 he was awarded Fellowship in the International College of Dentists in recognition of substantial and sustained contribution as a dental professional.
Since 1998 Andrew has also had an active special interest in Dental Sleep Medicine and the oral appliances that are used to treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. He has served on various levels of the peak sleep body the Australasian Sleep Association and was jointly awarded the prestigeous ASA Presidents Award in 2017 for his contribution to the work of the Association especialy in regards to Dental Sleep Medicine. Andrew has lectured, been involved in clinical research and enjoys attending to his patients as well as being captivated with the growing field dental sleep medicine.
Andrew currently works Mondays through to Fridays with evening appointments available on Thurdays and Saturday morning appointments available once a month.
